HOME ENERGY PERFORMANCE

CUSTOMIZING YOUR HOME ENERGY USAGE WITH RECOMMENDED ENERGY SOLUTIONS

Palmetto understands that every home is different. This is why our energy specialists provide customized energy solutions to take control of your home's health and efficiency. We treat every home as a completely integrated system. If one part is performing poorly or out of balance, it can compromise the efficiency of the entire house and cause serious comfort and energy problems. Our holistic, unique approach and attention to detail allows us to pinpoint and repair the most common causes of residential shortfalls that can affect your comfort, health, safety and utility bills.

SEALING AIR LEAKS & ADDING INSULATION

Air leaks and insufficient insulation are the biggest energy wasters, so one of the first things your Palmetto Energy Specialist will look for is air leaks. Leaks around windows, doors, and electrical outlets can be obvious. Others, such as those in attics, around chimneys, and through recessed lighting fixtures, are harder to spot and are often the biggest energy drains in your home. Finding and sealing these leaks is critical to the overall efficiency and comfort of your home and will make all of the other components perform better.

Hand in hand with air sealing is insulation. Most homes need more insulation to slow the movement of heat so it stays warmer in the winter and cooler during the summer. We will properly install insulation in walls, floors, and attics to give you more even temperatures throughout the house and a quitter, more comfortable living environment

IMPROVING HEATING & COOLING SYSTEMS

Depending on the age and condition of your water heater or air-conditioner, your Palmetto Energy Specialist may recommend you replace it with a new, high-efficiency unit. We’ll determine and install a properly-sized unit, and make sure the air flows correctly and is evenly distributed throughout the house. Often, if we do replace a unit, it is usually smaller because the rest of the house is so efficient. This is very cost-effective for you.

We’ll test your combustion equipment, such as the furnace, boiler, and hot water heater, to measure their efficiency. We also check for carbon monoxide and gas leaks. When all these systems are balanced correctly, temperatures are more consistent, comfort is increased, and overheating is reduced resulting in energy savings.

SEALING DUCTWORK

Ductwork leakage is another big energy waster. According to the Department of Energy, a typical home loses up to 30 percent of the air that flows through the ventilation system. Ductwork must be well-sealed, insulated, and sized to ensure your home’s heating and cooling systems work as efficiently as possible. Most homes have leaky ductwork and insufficient air flow, which results in an uncomfortable living environment – regardless of the thermostat setting. Your Palmetto Energy Specialist may recommend sealing your home’s ducts to optimize air flow. They may also insulate ductwork in attics and crawlspaces to provide maximum comfort.

UPGRADING APPLIANCES & LIGHTING

Energy used for lighting and appliances can account for half of your home’s total utility bill. To lower this, your Palmetto Energy Specialist may recommend new high-efficiency ENERGY STAR® qualified products such as refrigerators, dishwashers, light fixtures, compact fluorescent or LED bulbs. Once you’ve taken steps to maximize efficiency, we can help you evaluate the addition of renewable energy systems, such as solar power installation, to further reduce your utility bills

REPLACEMENT DOORS & WINDOWS

Despite what you’ve heard, new windows usually don’t save as much energy as compared to other energy saving measures in your home. However, they can make you more comfortable, protect furniture and carpets from fading, and reduce condensation. If window replacement is something you are interested in, your Palmetto Energy Specialist can help. We only uses windows that exceed ENERGY STAR® specifications, and we ensure they are installed properly so you get the most benefit from your investment. And, like all of our work and the products we install, our windows are guaranteed.
